The Role
A major Consultancy is looking to add an additional Chartered Surveyor to their operation based in Birmingham. An opportunity to work closely with prominent client base delivering first class instructions and a diet of professional and contract administration. Probably an ideal opportunity for the Building Surveyor looking to develop their profile and raise the level of client base and instructions that you focus on.

Supporting the Director in all aspects of Building Surveying Consultancy you will have a high degree of client contact, developing strong networks throughout with clients and our business. You'll enjoy work with a variety of client sectors, mainly the commercial sector both investors and occupiers and some instructions form the public sector.

Roles and responsibilities

Main Accountability

Taking and being responsible for instructions reporting to Senior Director
Operate as part of a regional and national team for the delivery of portfolio survey exercises or large building contracts
Design and contract administration service (desirable but not essential)
Dilapidations, acting on behalf of landlords/tenants
Schedules of Condition
Fire insurance/reinstatement valuations
Planned Preventative Maintenance Plans
Technical Due Diligence Surveys (Pre-acquisition Building Survey Reports)Building Pathology
Clients and Business Development
Responsible for managing small instructions or subsections of major projects
Works independently on most assignments but receives guidance only on unusual issues
Has broad knowledge of principles and practices of related disciplines
Manages existing client relationships at a senior level on a day to day basis
Can identify new business opportunities outside own discipline and pass on

Supervises teams on assignments
Shares knowledge with/ provides information to colleagues and team
Systems and Process
Works within clearly defined, well established processes under regular supervision
Solves problems by following well defined processes and precedents
Consults more experienced colleagues on more difficult or unfamiliar situations


Degree in Building Surveying
MRICS qualified (min 3 years PQE)


Dilapidations, acting on behalf of landlords/tenants
Schedules of Condition
Fire insurance/reinstatement valuations
Planned maintenance
Acquisition/building surveys (Investor and occupier)
Defect analysis
Party Wall

Project monitoring
DDA surveys
Experience of design and contract administration duties - principally repair and maintenance works with some fit out
Key Skills/Competencies
Good IT skills
To be commercially minded with a strong sense of professionalism
Good technical expertise
Confident with clients – good communication skills
Able to work with minimal supervision and keen to expand knowledge
Driven to develop career through qualification and longer term experience
